To win the 2011 Intercontinental Le Mans Cup championship title, Peugeot only needed to score 13 points at Petit Le Mans. The race featured no fewer than ten safety car periods but Franck Montagny, Stephane Sarrazin and Alexander Wurz made it to the end in their Peugeot 908 HDi FAP. Marc Gené achieved a great second position with Nicolas Minassian and Nicolas Lapierre, with Team Oreca Peugeot 908.
I am very happy with this second position. I had very good memories of this circuit as last season I also finished second, but this year I was not planning to race until I got the request from Team Oreca and I am very pleased with this opportunity. Driving again the 908HDI Peugeot was very emotional because I raced for the first time with this car in 2007 and it will certainly be the last one. The integration with teammates Minassian and Lapierre was perfect from the first day and the atmosphere in the team was really good. The race was difficult as there were many accidents and safety car appearances but closing the season with this result and the victory for Peugeot in the race and the championship is just excellent.
This one-two finish was Peugeot's third at Road Atlanta and rounds out a successful season with five race wins (Sebring, Spa-Francorchamps, Imola, Silverstone and Road Atlanta) and four pole positions (Sebring, Imola, Silverstone and Road Atlanta) without forgetting the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th places at Le Mans 24 Hours.
Peugeot will now race for the last time this year in China in November with the intention to close add something else to the great season done this year.
